Detail Stripping The Stock Assembly Of The M1 Garand

Detail stripping the M1 Garand's wood is, (with the possible exception of the Rear Handguard), a very easy process. In fact, it is so simple that a child could do it.

Most of the things that need doing can be accomplished with a standard GI Combo Tool. In this section the only item that needs more tools than the combo tool to remove is the Rear Handguard Band. More on that later...

While reading this you may want to refer to the Nomenclature Pages if any of the part names don't click.

After field stripping the rifle and removing the Gas Cylinder we can then begin to detail strip the wood from the M1 Garand.

Start with the Buttplate.
