How To Detail Strip The M1 Garand Gas Cylinder

After Detail Stripping the M1 Garand Rifle's Feed System we will, (on rare occasions), detail strip the Gas Cylinder as well. This segment will show how to detail strip this part of the firearm.

Do not detail strip this assembly very frequently as there is no pressing need to do so this is because it can put wear on the splines that hold the barrel and the Gas Cylinder together. Loosening them could cause inaccuracy.

Detail stripping the M1 Garand's gas Cylinder Assembly is a easy to do. However, ALWAYS wear safety glasses when working on any part of the rifle.

Most of the things that need doing can be accomplished with a standard GI Combo Tool. The Gas Cylinder is no exception to this.

While reading this section you may want to refer to the Nomenclature Pages if any of the part names don't ring a bell.

The first step in the Gas Cylinder disassembly process is to remove the Gas Cylinder Lock Screw Valve.
