How To Reassemble The Trigger Group On The M1 Garand

The final step in the process of putting the trigger group together is to functionally test its operation to assure that you have it all back together correctly.

Cock the hammer using the pull-down method on the trigger guard. This assures that you have properly aligned the hammer with the guard and that upon field stripping it will do the same when it is in the rifle.

Next fully close the trigger guard and operate the safety to assure that it slides back and forth without undue pressure.

With the safety in the rear (safe) position, try to depress the trigger. If the hammer moves forward then you have either a bad part in the assembly or have assembled it wrong.

Finally take the safety off and put your thumb on the hammer and pull the trigger. If the hammer releases then all is probably okay and you have a fully assembled trigger group!
